UK’s Newest Professional Institute Announces High Profile Appointments

The Institute for Organisational Development (OD) has announced details of industry leading figures to head up its new professional membership organisation.

Dr Linda Holbeche has been appointed as the first President of the Institute. A thought and practice leader in the fields of leadership, HRM, organization design and development Linda has a strong interest in helping organisations and individuals achieve sustainable high performance.

An established author, consultant, coach and developer, Linda is author of several books over 50 research reports and more than 100 articles and since 2000 has been regularly judged an influential thought and practice leader by HR Magazine and Personnel Today.

A regular speaker at national and international conferences, Linda is Visiting Professor in HRM and Organisation Development at Cass Business School (London), Visiting Professor of Leadership Innovation at the University of Bedfordshire, Visiting Professor Strategic Human Resource Management at the University of Derby, Adjunct Professor at Imperial College, London, Co-Director of the Centre for Progressive Leadership at London Metropolitan University. She is also a Fellow of Roffey Park Institute, an Associate of Ashridge Management College and Erasmus Business School (Rotterdam)

In accepting her Presidency, Linda comments “I am very honoured to be invited to become the first President of the new Institute for Organisational Development. There are many significant disciplines that contribute to organisational development (OD) thinking and practice in the UK – Strategic HRM, Learning and Development, Strategy, Systems Thinking, Behavioural Science, Leadership, Change Management, Culture – to name but a few, yet to date there has been no single institutional hub exclusively focused on the promotion, development and implementation of OD theory and practice in the UK. It is great that the new Institute will bring that specific focus by helping build great OD practice in organisations as well as raise awareness of the value of OD by shining a spotlight on OD’s meaningful contribution to organisational effectiveness and business success. I look forward to the next chapter of OD in the UK as the work of the new Institute unfolds

In addition to a President, the UK Institute has launched a new Advisory Group of senior leaders from public and private sector, chaired by Andy Meadows, Group HR Director, Abellio Group; with Vice-Chair, Professor Julie Jomeen, Dean of Faculty, Health Sciences at the University of Hull; and Institute Strategy Champions including, Steve McGowan, HR Director, Humber NHS Foundation Trust; Natalie McMillan, CEO, HR and OD Director;  Peter Thorpe, Director of Learning, Skills & Culture, North Lincolnshire Council and  Amanda Oates, Executive Director of Workforce, Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust.

Steve Benfield, Chief Executive of the Institute for Organisational Development comments “I am delighted that we have such high-profile people who have chosen to dedicate their time, energy and passion to further the important work of the profession of OD and the Institute in particular. We are indebted to each of them in their desire to take the institute forward, in celebration of the art, science and practice of OD, now recognised as a profession in its own right.

“We have commissioned 19 key projects in our first six months of existence, including the launch of individual membership for those either practising and working in the field of OD in November 2018.
