Our key research principle of action research focuses on practice-led research leading to research-led practice and we need your support and involvement to deliver this.

We welcome your suggestions of research opportunities in your organisation and across several organisations; we want you to get involved in our research as well as benefiting from the outcomes of the research. We also want you to help us find and share other people’s research which will be of interest to our OD community.

To express your interest in being involved with the Institute for Organisational Development’s Research programme or to suggest further topics for inclusion in our 2018-2019 Research programme, please contact Institute Projects Manager Martha Benfield on

Example of previous member research undertaken : the impact of OD interventions

In Summer 2016, The Beech Centre commissioned Jirong Li, Research Project Student, as part of an academic dissertation submitted to the University of Sheffield Management School, to undertake a piece of member research, exploring how to demonstrate the impact of Organisational Development (OD) interventions that were undertaken in member organisations by eliciting their views, through questionnaire survey and follow-up interviews.

We have pulled together an Executive Summary which captures the key findings and recommendations arising from this research project, together with our proposed next steps, which include:

  • driving the learning from this research into our Evaluation Plan, working within our current Engagement Framework to really embed this approach within our evaluation activity,
  • regularly reviewing the outputs from this evaluation activity to identify the key research themes arising, the findings from which will in turn drive our consultancy practice, our programme content and ultimately our strategic proposition.

You can download the full executive summary by clicking here.

We have a number of research projects with Institute member clients underway – all seeking to explore how OD activity contributes to sustainable changes in organisational health and wellbeing within the organisational system, which in turn leads to improved results in delivery and service quality.
