Yesterday saw The Institute for Organisational Development’s annual Christmas Team Meeting. Each year we plan to do something fun in the second part of the day once all the boring stuff is out the way with. This year we all made our way into Hull City Centre for a game of Laser tag and mini bowling! The Laser Tag was the best. Having not played since I was 11 years old I found myself to be a bit rusty. A week ago today I experienced a ‘break through’ moment with a client working in the Health Sector. Over the past 2 years we have communicated mostly via telephone and email liaising over challenging demands presented through operational logistical planning that comes with mostly co-ordinating delivery interventions. My past experiences with this client have been hostile at times, short, impersonal and challenging. I would often come away from our brief conversations both disappointed in how the conversation had gone and questioning my own interpersonal skills. What was I doing wrong with this client? I wasn’t any different in my personal approach.
